Why am I not surprised?

Woke up to a blood red sunrise this morning, with the birds squawking and the fresh air coming into the window and my face and pillows covered in some liquid; one look down at my hands told me it was blood, one look down my head told me I'm semi-fucked. Must be some side-reaction of Penicillin V.

Unhealthy in Paranoid Times

Apparently, I have strep throat - stay away, it's contagious! Feels like something's constantly stuck, but hopefully the antibiotic pills cures it fast! Done finals, done school! New David Usher CD tomorrow.

We'll Keep Soldiering On

Chipmunk/squirrel chased me yesterday for food. Beautiful beach trail, with a peaceful forest and the ocean view. People are still as friendly as ever - a casual "hi" or "good morning". Small-town atmosphere. Nostalagic atmosphere in the school - though the enormity of the place is scary. No sense of coziness or community.

Hacking cough has gotten worse, and it's not a good sign. Another sunny day in the big city.

If God Had Curves

Been an interesting past couple days. Pounding headache yesterday, the Tylenol helped for a while, but I needed something stronger ie. T3's. Today's exponentially better, though a hacking cough has developed. Beautiful day again in paradise. We'll see if some pictures can't be took. Been trying to study for my only exam, but it's pretty hard to stay motivated. Looks like I'll have my first phone interview. Interesting. Tomorrow I think I'm going to hit up a nice hike over to the school, make a guest appearance, before I leave back to the big city.
New album from:
Our Lady Peace - Healthy In Paranoid Times
How relevant is that title? (Though for me, it should be unhealthy in paranoid times).
"Violence is 'off the chart' in area on Iraq border" (from Yahoo News)
Violence fuels violence.
Check out David Usher's new album, If God Had Curves. Great songs, great album. You can also pre-order an autographed copy from maplemusic.com

Love Trust

It's a beautiful sunny day in paradise. Everything would be perfect, except for one key problem: I'm sick. And when I get sick, I get deathly sick - it's been 2.5 years since the last time. Last night, I had the shivers, the fever, you name it. It's a wonder how I was able to watch the Simpsons (and Vice-President Cletus). I'm sure the blackberry wine along with the roast chicken didn't help either. But since it's so sunny out, I've decided to go out and do some lawnwork, study a little bit for my exam, and maybe go out into town (if I feel better). The beauties of a small town: the ocean, the sunlight, the mountains. Tomorrow should be good.

Home

Public transportation is sweet, especially the U-Pass. Skytrain, to bus, to ferry. Looks like I'll be getting a tour, as well as making a guest appearance at Brooks. Maybe more, maybe not.

Sudan, Darfur

A history of the events, summarized and taken from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3496731.stm
-Began in early 2003 after a rebel group began attacking government targets claiming that the region was being neglected by Khartoum
-Rebels claim government is oppressing black Africans in favor of Arabs
-Tension has existed for many years between the mostly nomadic Arabs and farmers from the Fur, Massaleet and Zagawa communities.
-Two main rebel groups: the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM)
-Government admits mobilizing "self-defence militias" following rebel attacks but denies any links to the Janjaweed, accused of trying to "cleanse" large swathes of territory of black Africans
-Refugees from Darfur say that following air raids by government aircraft, the Janjaweed ride into villages on horses and camels, slaughtering men, raping women and stealing whatever they can find
-Women report being abducted by the Janjaweed and held as sex slaves for more than a week before being released
-UN says that "war crimes", and not genocide are being committed
-Approximately two million people have left their homes and many thousands have been killed
-UN has been criticised for doing too little, too late -most have fled their destroyed villages for camps in Darfur's main towns but there is not enough food, water or medicine.
-Janjaweed patrol outside the camps and Darfurians say the men are killed and the women raped if they venture too far in search of firewood or water
And you're worrying about driving to work tomorrow, she's worrying about what she's gonna wear tonight, he's worrying about what time he has to wake up tomorrow, I'm worrying about my electronic materials exam in just over a week. Million voices, million minds. Make a choice about what to worry about.

Movies and Reality

There were three main movies, contending for the annual Oscar of best picture: at the annual Oscar contenders this year: The Aviator, Million Dollar Baby, and Ray. Million Dollar Baby lacked punch and depth - it was shallow and for the most part, predictable. However, two movies which should have been on that list were omitted: (1) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and (2) Hotel Rwanda.
I will digress into (1) first. It toys with the human emotion of love and the utmost journey into finding that specific feeling. It features great performances by Kate Winslet, Jim Carrey, Kirsten Dunst, among others. It features reality within a fantasy and fantasy within a reality and is a definite must watch.
The latter movie features reality, targeting the obviousness of the situation and the unwillingness of society to act. I only ask one question: would you, while watching the news, and viewing such terrible acts of violence, murder, and the raping of humanity, say to yourself and the others at the table 'That's atrocious!!' and continue on eating? Or would you do something about it? Apparently, most of the world did not. I was 11 at the tragedy of Rwanda. I am now 22. And apparently, humanity does not learn from mistakes. The same atrocities are occuring in Sudan. Make peace a reality and act on the human instinct to help because in reality, sequels are always terrible.

Devastating Dave

Transferred

Apparently, blogger owns livejournal. So that's why only the semi-meaningful posts have been transferred over. Gotta get me a digital camera, those things are definitely the rage these days. Though I've personally never been a picture person myself.
It's been a reunion tour the last couple days. Some old friends getting together for coffee, getting together for a few beers, getting together for a mix of Fireball and cranberry cocktail (which suprisingly, is not bad at all). Chilled during the Queens concert in a Starbucks till they kicked me out. Then walked around downtown, looking at all the tall buildings, the dark corners and the interesting people.
Met up after the Queens concert, had a couple drinks. Then caught a bus home. Though the bus driver was not sketchy, the inhabitants inside the vehicle certainly were. Pretty scary, and sad at the same time driving through Chinatown and that area of Vancouver. Had a good Subway sandwich when I got home (that was a great call) and a good sleep.

Long Goodbye

Jump one two three jump one two three jump one two three wave your arms waving blindly Rock the world rock the joint blow the joint blow the door
Alone in the loneliness and naked in the darkness light shone through the door illuminating the brightness
Laugh and scream and hold and talk and wish and cry and giggle and need me more
